The Hampshire Astronomical Group and General Data Protection Regulations

The Hampshire Astronomical Group is fully committed to holding the personal data it receives securely and in accordance with current data legislation.

What is Personal Information?

Personal Information is information that can be directly associated with an identifiable natural person such as a visitors’s name, address, telephone number, email address, or banking details.

Use of Personal Details

The Hampshire Astronomical Group will only collect the minimum amount of personal data in order to provide you with the service offered or requested; this is often attendance at open evenings or group visits. This data usually consists of the basic contact details and any other essential details required in order for you to visit the observatory.

We will collect personal data from people who have applied for membership. This will be processed for the purposes of administering the waiting list and becoming a member of the Group. We also collect data from members of the public who wish to attend our astronomy courses. Data is only processed in order to administer the astronomy course and communicate with course participants.

The Hampshire Astronomical Group operates a CCTV system at the observatory for the purposes of safety and for identification and prosecution of offenders. These images are stored for 28 days.

Sharing of Personal Details

We do not pass any personal data to third parties unless required to do so by law.

Processing of data

When using the term ‘processing of data’ this is simply organising personal contact details into a list for purposes described above.

Subject Requests

If you believe we hold any of your personal data, you can ask to see what data we hold about you. To do so please make your request by getting in contact with us. Please give us as much detail as you can about your data request so that we can fully meet your request. We will respond within 28 days.
